Fluorite

Fluorite is one of the more famous fluorescent minerals.

Ancient Egyptians used fluorite in carvings. The Romans believe when drinking wine from a cup or vessels carved from fluorite it would keep the drinker from getting drunk. In the 18^th century, fluorite powder would be added to water to relieve symptoms of kidney disease. And the Chinese used fluorite in there carving for over 300 years for their alter pieces.

In the 20century as much as 90% of the world’s fluorite is crushed up into a flux and used in smelters to make steel and other metals.
